Located in the Set river valley, l’Albagés has 348 inhabitants (2022). The village covers an area of 25.99 km2. The dual character of the terrain of Les Garrigues is demonstrated by the alternating patches of vegetables and more open land planted with olive and almond trees.
At the top of a hill with excellent panoramic views, there are remains of an ancient castle. Castell de l’Albagés was built in the 12th century and three centuries later became the palace of the administrator of the Poblet monastery. lts highlights include a large Gothic window and the beautiful coat of arms of Abbot Guimerà de Poblet, sculpted on either side of the window.
In the village, the Baroque-style church of Sant Joan Baptista boasts a profusely decorated facade and a slim belltower.
Nowadays L’Albagés is known for its reservoir at the end of the Segarra-Garrigues canal. There are many routes leading to it.
