La Floresta, with 154 inhabitants (2022), is clustered around Vinaixa stream. It has historically been associated with the castle, the building, listed as an asset of national cultural interest. It combines a mix of artistic styles: late Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. Over the centuries the Dukes of Cardona, Pallars and Medinacelli left their marks within the walls of this castle. The halls with magnificent coffered wooden ceilings are amongst the many striking elements, preserved in this building. Nearby there is a Baroque parish church dedicated to Sant Blai.
The Pou de Gel ( The Ice Well) is a stone construction from the 14th century, used to conserve food with the help of snow collected in it. The stonework gallery exhibits the relationship between the town of La Floresta and this natural resource, displaying the old tools and works, bequeathed by the master stonemason Felip Martin.
If we walk through the village, we will see the stone neo-Gothic cross in Plaça Mancomunitat. At the bottom of the road, there are washing machines from 1921.
The walking tours make it easy to visit the dry stone huts and explore their unique architecture, as well as the water canals, and the old village of Castellots.
On the 3rd of February, the festival of Sant Blai, the patron saint of the Floresta, is celebrated here with a religious event and a brotherhood lunch. At Easter time, the cultural week takes place, with series of conferences and talks on current issues. The Summer Festival is the third weekend in August.
